FBV shortboard malfunction

Yesterday I used my new Spider IV 150 w/ MK II shortboard with the band for the first time. I moved it from home, plugged it in and hooked up the shortboard. The amp worked and the board lit up but the volume pedal was on full and would not shut off in the heel down position. I was able to switch pre -sets but still no volume pedal. I procceded to use the gear without the pedal and after a while it started to work. Then the wah wah quit working. With the wah turned on both the green volume and the red wah light were lit, but the wah wah didn't function. After playing for a while I tried it again and it worked! I've got it set up again at home and everything seem to be fine. What happened? I bought this rig to try and simplify my gear set up but so far it's been a real headache. I confess that I'm not a techie and I may have bungled something but it was working fine at home ,and it's not as complicated as my Pod X3 Live pedal, which works fine...so far.

Also the FBV calibration steps that come with the downloaded Advanced Guide for the Spider amp don't do anything. I followed the directions to "power off the board, press and hold the 'D' footswitch while powering on the board'. There's supposed to be an LCD readout :Calibrate Pedal" but there isn't any such display . So I don't know if this thing is even "Calibrated". It seems to work fine, when it's working. Is it actually necessary to calibrate it?

I suspect the answer to this is "No", but is there a way to backup User settings from the Spider IV (via an FBV presumably)?

If not, can someone take that as a suggestion for enhancement.

Hey,

I just bought a new Spider IV 75 watt amp today. When I got home and plugged in nothing worked. Power was on, the screen lit up, but none of the knobs worked and no sound came out. I had the mastervolume all the way up and my guitar volume all the way up, I turned it on and off and reset factory settings, nothing seems to work.

Spider III 75 and Spider IV 75 have same presets, but dont sound the same at all?

On the spider III presets such as (Royal Lush, Riggs, Honky Tonk) just too name a few, are on the spider IV also. But on the spider IV they do not sound the same at all.

For instance the Riggs on the spider III has a harder more metal tone, and the Riggs on spider IV is a more heavy crunch. Why do the presets not match sound wise?

Spider IV 150 bad breakup at low input (crackling)

Am noticing when the volume is turned down on the guitar, the Spider IV sound tends to break-up annoyingly (crackling). Sounds the same through the speakers or headphones. Is there a way to set up the amp to keep that from happening, so I can use the guitar volume for volume & tone? I tried using the volume pedal; there was none of the annoying breakup but the sound doesn't have the same swelling tone and it's a lot harder for me to adjust between rythm & lead using the pedal. The guitar is a 1970's Strat. Spider rel. 1.04.

I've got a IV Spider 75 and very happy with it.

But I've got one gripe - and Line 6 are not the only manufacturer who haven't sussed this yet.

When I'm using a preset, and got it set to volume level for home use. I switch to another preset, and get blown out of the window .

Now I'd have thought it to be simple to use the same volume settings across all the presets for a session. Just reseting them to the defaults volumes when powered up again?

Since I don't wish to set them each time I switch preset. Equally do not wish the go through all presets changing them for home use, then back to gig level....etc etc.

A little intuition from the amp would be helpful, ie recognising the levels the unit is being played at.

Crackling noise on Spider IV 75

When using my new spider amp I get a buzzing/crackling noise which continues for a few seconds. This happens several times in a half hour period. It happens on any settings and with any guitar. Is this amp susceptible to electronic interference? Or is this a fault. It happens when there is no other electrical activity going on in the house. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hello,

I purchased a Spider III early in 2009 and have been using it consistantly with no complaints until recently. Long story short.... I hurt my back really bad doing some work for my father and herniated one of my discs in my lower back. Needless to say this has made lugging around the amp to practice and what not a real downer as the amp only had the one handle on the top. This is the 2x10 version. So, I decided out of shear necessity that I would install some side handles and casters to accomidate my back handicap. My question was: will doing this have voided my warranty on the amp as I still should have 2 more years left on the warranty. If so, all I can say is: O'well. And just for future reference I would recommend that Line6 install more ergonomic hardware on these combo amps. They really are a hassle to lug around with just the top strap handle. Its very awkward to lift and carry...especially up 3 flieghts of stairs! At least now I can apply proper lifting tecnique and not further injure myself. Please respond at your convenience.

Spider III 75w amp giving different volume levels from each preset.

I bought the Spider III 75w when it came out a few years ago. Since day one this has bugged me but i never contacted line 6 untill now.

Here's the deal, when im flipping through the presets I'll find something I like and adjust the volume. Later on when i want to flip through the presets some are way too loud.

why arent all of the presets on the same volume level? The volume levels are always jumping, its excessively annyoing to me.

Is it possible to do anything to fix this or do we just have to live with it? Thanks.

Spider IV - Additional Characters in FBV Shortboard MKII

I just bought the new shortboard MKII and the LCD readout will display characters not in the patch name, although it does it intermittently. Does that sound like the amp or the shortboard? I have had no issues with the amp, but I just bought the shortboard.

Just got this amp in on the 11- 12-09 and the problems I'm having seems to be in the modeling buttons, Clean sounds like flange crunch sounds clean metal sounds crunch and so forth. I got it from Sam Ash online and would just send it back but my wife took the box's to her work (sweet thing that she is) this morning to be smashed and Sam Ash will not accept returns unless there in the original box's anyways I need to know what to do with it send it to you all or take it to one of your authorized repairman?

Spider IV and MAC

Hi,

I've currently got Pod Farm running fine on my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard (it did from the start - not sure what caused many peoples issues).

However I'm aware Monkey is not fully working on Snow Leopard. There are some empty areas and missing information when viewing my Pod Studio UX1 data via Monkey.

My question is, if I buy a Spider IV 75 (and Shortboard MkII), will Monkey successfully update the Spider IV software to the latest version, or is that not likely to work on the current version of Monkey when running Snow Leopard??

I made sure everything was uptodate before upgrading the OS to Snow Leopard so have not currently had to try to update the UX1, so dont really know what works and what doesn't at the moment.

Will Monkey recognise the Spider IV? and will the "updates" area have all the info present etc rather than being empty etc etc

Any solid answers would be very handy, so I can go and buy the amp.

my spider iv has version 1.1, i have downloaded ver 1.2 and version 1.4 but monkey says that my products are up to date. the display reads ver. 1.01. is monkey supposed to determine what version i have on my spider iv then download and install, or is there concept i am missing.

Calibrate FBV Express MKII with Spider III 75 amp

My FBV Express pedal does not control volume or Wah. It will switch between the two fine, but moving the pedal has not effect. I tried to calibrate with this method:

FBV Express

1) Unplug the RJ45 cable from your FBV EXPRESS

2) Move the expression pedal all the way to the toe down position

3) Hold down the A and D switches

4) Plug in your RJ45 with the switches still depressed and hold this for 10 seconds (you will see the LED go blank)

5) Move the expression pedal to the heel position and then all the way forward to the toe.

6) Shift all of your weight to the toe position (you will want to stand up) until the WAH light switches on.

7) Wait 10 seconds and click back to VOL. Your FBV EXPRESS is now calibrated.

But on step 4, the LED never goes blank. Are these compatible? I am doing something wrong?

Spider IV 150 patch drive?

Got myself a Spider IV 150 2x12 and i'm loving it. I have two questions which I just can't see to find the answers too:

1. Is there just one default 'wah' model ?

2. When I have an artist patch that I like, I touch the drive knob .... which then seems to change to the setting of the current position position of the knob ... how can I know what the original artist setting was ? For example I just want to increase/decrease the drive a little from where the artist had it ... on my pod XT ... the presets have a little spot next to them which you can see before you tweak, although I can see this spot on the Spider IV it appears to be the position of the knobs and not the artist settings?

I recently came into ownership of a Line 6 Spider III amp and I need some help with recording. The amp has a Line Out Jack(also for headphones) and when I tried plugging that into my computer I could see that the Line In was receiving the signal but I can't hear anything. I run on Windows Vista and use Audition and Audacity for recording. Does anyone how I can hear my amp through my computer to record?

So there are 16 user banks available with the Spider IV 75, and 4 presets to each. I understand that with the FBV express mkII pedal hooked up, one can choose any of 4 presets, but I don't see anywhere in the manuals or on your site information about how you scroll up or down to another bank to access other saved presets using this pedal. Is that only possible with the shortboard?

RED COMP Guitar Tapping Settings

I just bought a Spider IV 75 and I'm trying to get a good RED COMP setting for guitar tapping similar to what Minus the Bear uses or what you might get with a Barber Tone Press. Does anyone have any RED COMP settings that you could share to achieve this or do you recommend investing in another pedal for this purpose? I haven't been able to really find any information in the documentation about how to use the RED COMP FX. I've played with the settings a bit but just can't seem to get the result that I'm looking for to do clean guitar tapping.

Spider III 120

Hi,

I have some problmes with mi Spider III 120 amp. I turn the amp on and everything seems ok. After 10 or 15 minutes of playing it makes a sound and lowers its volume after that it makes a very loud squeling and can't play no more. If I unplugged mi guitar the squealing stops, but at soons as the cable touches the input pulg the squeling is back. It seems to be a short circuit problem or grounding issue. I unscrew the electronics and put the hardware unit apart form the speakers and the problem seems to stop.

Have you heard of something like that?... do you have any suggestions I can make myself before I pay some checkup?. The amp is a year and a half old, I'm the first owner and it has have ver light use. I like the amp a lot but right know I'm kind of dissapointed that I'm starting having problmes so soon with that little use.

Quick Loop on FBV Express when NOT on User Presets

On the FBV Express, Quick Loop can be entered by pressing A+B simultaneously.

The problem I'm running into is that this makes the Spider not only go to the loop function but also drop into User Presets.

I tried pressing Quick Loop on the amp, but then I don't get a lit A/B/C/D pedal on the Express to start and stop the loop.

Am I doing something wrong?

Didn't find any matching info. I am using a Spider IV 75 together with a FBV Express Mk.II and while the quick-loop is a really nice feature, sometimes it can be annoying when it starts by accident. This isn't a big issue while being in the practising room, but could be in a live situation. Is there a way to disable control of the looper via the FBV or at least a setting to disable the amps looper at all ?

I bought a Fender Deluxe strat from a man last weekend, the guitar is great but the amp that came with it is one of the worst sounding solid state amps I've ever heard. I also have a couple of different tube amps that I've played this guitar through and it's great. My question is is there any thing that can be done to the circuitry in this amp to make it sound better? The tones of the notes are so dull and bland, I've tried all the different settings you show but they aren't really any help. If I tear this amp up changing anything in it I don't consider it to be a loss at this point.

I found how to reset this amp and it does sound somewhat better, it's late and I don't want to turn the sound up catch hell through out the neighborhood, I realize there's a big difference between a solid state amp the Fender tube amps I have but I also have a Fender ultra chorus amp (not ultimate chorus) and this Fender ultra chorus is one of the best sounding solid state amps I've ever heard. To be fair until proven otherwise I'm not familiar with the Line 6 amps and I have a lot to learn about them, I've played for a little over 50 years and I own some of the best tube amps that you can get and they are all except for one pre CBS and are great amps and I'm not trying to compare the 6 amp against the tube amps but I would like for it to at least compete with the Ultra chorus amp. If anyone has any suggestions I'm always willing to listen and learn, appreciate any help! By the way I'm not just comparing the Deluxe strat that I bought, I've tried all my strat's and they go from pre CBS models to the anniversary models and some signature series strat's.

Spider III Internal Glitch?

Hey, I'm having an odd problem with my spider III 150 that I haven't seen anywhere else on the net. For some reason, when I am playing, my amp will random change the contour and the tone of my guitar, as well as over distort and actually change the sound of the strings, without me touching any of the dials or buttons. When this happens, I try to turn the amp on and off in an attempt to quick fix the problem, but when I turn the amp back on all I get from the navigation bar is black blocks, no sound comes out, and none of my pre-sets are accessable. I have to wait several minutes, turning the amp on and off several times, in order for the amp to work again, and even when it finally does come back on, it quickly goes back to distorting my sound. This has just been happening recently, and I have tried reseting the amp several times (much to my dismay, I lost and had to re-do all my presets, 5 banks of them .), and it repeats the same problem. I've also tried plugging into different power sources to test for a power problem, but to no avail. I attached a picture of the blocks that I get when I try to turn the amp on after a sound distortion occurs. sorry it's somewhat blurry but you can see the black blocks on the navigation screen. Hopefully you can help me out!

First it started a clipping sound, then I did the factory rest and it work for 5 minutes then the led screen has 8 bars across it and nothing else lights up or no sound. I have had this amp 2 years and it only has about 20 hours of playing time on it. I always unplugged it when not in use. I hope this can still be covered under warranty because the extra warranty expired 2 months before this problem which figures.

FBV Express pedal

My FBV Express pedal does not control volume or Wah. It will switch between the two fine, but moving the pedal has no effect on level. I upgraded to the lastest firmware and I tried to calibrate with this method:

Start with your FBV device not connected to any USB port or Line 6 device (and, therefore, powered “off”).
Press and hold down the “D” labeled footswitch while you “power on” your FBV (by connecting to your computer’s USB port, or Line 6 device with which you plan on using your FBV). Upon release of the D footswitch, the FBV Tuner’s numerical display will read “1”.
Press the on-board pedal forward fully and hold down pedal’s Toe Switch until the Tuner display changes to “2”. This should occur instantly.
While holding the pedal in the “heel” (minimum) position, press the D footswitch. The Tuner display will change to “3”.
Move the pedal to the toe (maximum) position, without clicking the Toe Switch. Allow the pedal to rest in the toe position (maximum) and press the D button. The LEDs above the Tuner’s numerical display will light.
Move the pedal and verify that the LEDs above the Tuner’s numerical display sequentially turn off as the pedal moves to the minimum position, and sequentially light up when the pedal is moved to the maximum position.

Your FBV MkII should now be calibrated. Press D to return to normal operation.

Everything works as it is supposed to except: Move the pedal and verify that the LEDs above the Tuner’s numerical display sequentially turn off as the pedal moves to the minimum position, and sequentially light up when the pedal is moved to the maximum position.

Moving the pedal at this stage has no effect on the lights.

Is the pedal bad? I have been looking for answer for months.

Spider 3 30w stuck on Crunch

My amp is about 1 year old, (maybe 2.. i dont remember) and about a month ago this started to happen: I would be playing on Insane, Clean, or Metal, and the amp would randomly switch itself to Crunch and be stuck there. Turning the amp off and letting it sit for a few minutes used to help but it would inevitably happen again. Now when i turn it on it's stuck on Crunch to begin with. Every other knob works, i jsut cant switch channels... WHAT IS WRONG? AND WHAT DO I DO? HEEELLLPP!!

I have used the Spider III series in the past at my band's place and loved all the features like saving channels.

My question is, If I get a Spider IV 15 Watt amp and FBV MkII Express controller, does the controller change the channels when plugged in?

What I mean is, if i'm on the 3rd channel which I think is called Metal if I click the D on the pedal will it bring me to the 4th channel Insane?

Can you like customize which letter goes with what channel or is channel switching not how this thing works?

There is a "Line 6 FBV Footboard" listed in compatible Footboards for the Spider II 30, tho when I click on that board for more information, the Spider II 30 isn't listed as an amp supported by that footboard. I want to purchase the best footboard possible for a Spider II 30, but I'm not sure this one is suitable... can you please help?

I'm not sure if anyone was following my original question or not, but I recently exchanged my Spider II head and got the Spidervalve HD100. My experience A/Bing the two is best summarized as follows. Sound difference between the two: Very Marginal. The amp sounds are almost identical, and I think most people would have trouble hearing the difference between the two. When I would select one "Crunch" model and compare it to the other amp's "Crunch" model it was practically identical. Now I know guitaring is a kind of "head-down-in-your-own-world-ear-next-to-the-speaker" kind of thing, so most guitarists I know agonize over their tone in an obsessive way that most persons would not bother with. I may be criticized for this opinion, but I found the two amps to be almost identical. The one reason for my original letter was regarding some fuzzy gain settings on the Spider II. In certain situations, and certain settings, the Spider II would have a quiet kind of fuzzy "pfftt..fftt...ftt.ft...p" sound as a note or chord decayed. This is not apparant on the Spider Valve so it is an improvement in sound quality. Also, did anyone have any use for the Spider II Insane setting Red (I think it was?) The one with the fuzz-sub-octave sound? I thought for sure my Spider II was defective the minute I hit that sound, until I read the user manual. A most un-musical sound! All the better aspects, however, went to the Spider Valve as you might imagine. The amp has a higher-quality feel to it (robust on/off switches, knobs have a little more resistance and feel to them, tap/bank buttons feel more business-like) and the sound was sonically more pleasing - if only marginal. The clarity of the guitar on the Spider Valve was better when arpeggiating (is that a word?!) a chord, and has a more musical and round tone. Overall a better timbre, but as I mentioned about, maybe only 5% better to my ears. Spider Valve feels louder, probably because of the different Power amp section. I found the Spider II to run out of volume quicker. Presets are fun, but not a lot of practical use. They are good starting points and maybe make me play a bit differently as they get me thiking about an artist or song. (I end up playing Day Tripper when I select day Day tripper, and then it's off to Beatles land for a while! Let's not forget I Feel Fine, cranked up!) What is the reason for this posting? I thought I would try to provide an even-sided look at the two amps. If anyone out there is considering the Spider II vs the Spider Valve, they are both very versatile amps without being too option-heavy. (That can inhibit creativity) Most people would not be able to hear the difference between the two in my opinion. If you have the extra money, the Spider Valve is marginally better sonically speaking. Can I disconnect the lights that light up the Line 6 name on the clear window? I think having the Line 6 logo “unlit” looks more subdued, tasteful, and humble. Hope everyone is enjoying their equipment half as much as I am!

I want to replace my stock v30 speakers with the mighty g12k-100's. Is it just a straight swap in and out with the new ones?

I also want to build an extension cab with the stock v30's, should i wire them in series or parallel?

And which jack input on the back of the SV212 would i plug the speaker leads into to get all 4 speakers making lovely noises??

Am I correct to understand that when you add the FBV Shortboard Mk II to the Spider IV 120, you can then assign the built in (or add-on) expression pedal for Wah instead of only being relegated to the built-in "AutoWah" effect? Can you also assign the expression pedal to control the speed of the "u-vibe"?

I own a two year old Spider III 30. I'm AD Navy and had been underway and came home tried to play my guitar and nothing, seemingly not getting power, no lights, no speaker pop.

Now it's lights are coming on indicating power, but no sound. How can I tell if the speakers blown. I believe it suffered a power surge from a lightning storm when I wasn't at home.

Also: What can the Function1 and Function2 switches on the FBV Shortboard Mk II be used for? Do they each just have certain functions? As far as I can tell, F1 is just a boost right now, and the F2 is only for initiating the loop features. Is that right? Are they programmable?

I just got a Spider III 150 and its been great until recently. I turned it on today to play it and after about 30min to 1hr it started shutting off, but the amp itself did not power off, its almost as if it was reseting itself or something. I don't want to asume its over heating because the cooling fins in the back were not hot to the touch. I there a breaker problem or is it a simple fix. I bought it directly from Line6 and not a local dealer. This has never happened before. To be spicific on what happens, Im jamming out then the sound total shuts off and all the lights that light up on the presets shut off along with the sound for about 2 to 3 seconds then comes back on, but like I said before the power itself does not shut off. Again its as if you would be holding a reset switch in for that amount of time and then releasing it. It may be just getting warm but I have another amp that is tubed and that thing can get piping hot in the back sometimes and it does not do this. HELP PLEASE, I dont really want to send this out for repairs if there is nothing wrong with it and Im being paranoid, by the way I do have a warrenty just incase. Thanks, Sam

I have a Spider IV 15 watt amp. I just bought a FBV express. Setting it up to calabrate went not so well. No one at the store could get it to work after trying to calibrate.

Next, get a new one home and get it calibrated. Now, after using it for a few minutes I realize it distorts the sound it all modes, A, B, C, or D just varied amount of distortion. I can not get a clear, simple 6 string guitar sound out of the amp. I also get a feed back hum if I come close to the amp with the guitar.

If I unplug the FBV, the distortion is not present. What is the issue? Is this proper? If so, I will go back to the simple two button switch. I like the WAH, but I don't want the same sound out of each mode.

Or is there something I am doing incorrectly? I am not aware of any "saved" settings. But why would the setting change to a different sound when the pedal is attached?

I am starting this thread to share and collect information on how the four push modes of the SVpre alter the sounds of our Spider Valve amps. I am working with a SV112. I have done one test already to see how the four push modes affect changes in volume. I recorded a single sustained note (open D string) into my Boss Loop Station. I set up my Radio Shack sound level meter on a tripod about a foot away from the speaker. I played the sustained tone repeatedly and measured the db level for the four push modes and got the following results:

Yellow 86 db 7db 7db 70%

Orange 89 db 3db 10db 100%

Red 93 db 4db 14db 140%

I was quite surprised to see such a large 70% jump in volume from Stock to Yellow. I do not have the equipment to measure how, if at all, the tone changed from one push mode to the next. That is, I cannot measure with any instrument (1) whether or not the four push modes produce the same spectrum of sounds at progressively higher volumes or (2) whether the four push modes produce different spectrums. My SVpre is set up with switches to change between modes, but the switches are on the back of the amp, and it would not be practical to switch between modes to use like you would an overdrive pedal.

Problem with Headphone jack

I've had my amp for about a year and it has worked perfectly, but just recently when i plug headphones in, i just get constant static out of them. I found that when i turn the amp on with the headphones already plugged in, there doesn't seem to be a problem. But when i plug them in after the amp is already on, i just get static. Is there something that i can try? or do i just need to get it serviced?

I recently aquired a pretty old first generation spider 2X12 Love it sounds great not a his and got it cheap. The catch It was dropped face down and now all the pots are hiper sencitive. i have a spider iii 30W with an FBV express pedal and i was wondering how to save presets on it. for example, right now on the "A" channel, it has echo saved on it so everytime i switch to the A/clean channel i have to manually take the knob that is already at 0 for delay/echo and turn it up and then turn it off to get rid of the echo. Hi .I and several others have been trying to do the same thing you are looking for line out with speaker still on. I solved the problem yesterday by buying a Radial jdx ampilifer Di box. It is expensive store price $170.00 BUT it sounds great even better than the headphone out on your amp AND still works the amp like normal even when it (di box)is not being used , Doesn't void amp warranty as speaker is being used in normal operation) and even if you had a tech modify your amp and void your warranty you would probably pay that much anyway for the work even if line 6 provided the skimatics which they don't do. Don't get me wrong I love this amp and to me the only thing lacking was this feature so now I have exactly what I wanted in an amp . I would recommend this purchase if you need this feature. By the way the box provides speaker simulator which sounds great ,believe me. , I hope this helps the people on this forum that have been writing in trying to get this feature working on there Spyder amp.

Spider IV Master Volume knob design problem

I don't know if this is a feature or not (probably a bug). The master volume knob does not increase the volume in a linear manner. If you turn the knob from 0 to 10, you just about reach the top volume at around 3. From there on is only a marginal increase of volume.

This makes it really hard to set a desirable volume level between 0 and 3. The knob is too sensitive. Any small knob movement you're either too loud or too soft. On the other hand, turning the knob between 3 and 10 does not affect the volume level very much.

Is this a bug?

Okay, I was just fooling around this morning to see if I could, in fact, get a decent recording out of my SM57 because I left my e609 at our rehearsal location. Before I knew it, I'd double tracked it, added bass and then drums. Actually, I think it came out pretty decent. See what you think. The tune bears a slight resemblance to Kid Rock's So Hott, but I intentionally didn't play it correctly.

Guitar is my Ibanez SZ720 with Duncan Distortion bridge pickup. Amp models are the Metal Blue on one side and Metal Amber on the other. Both are using my MXR 10-Band EQ in the effects loop of the SV. No post processing on those in Reaper. Mic'd up by an SM57 two inches off the cloth about midway between center and rim, into my TonePort UX2 on the default Modern preamp setting.

Bass is my Ibanez GSR-200 on the Jazz pickup into the default Power Pop setting on my UX2. A little post-EQ in Reaper to tighten that up. Drums are EZ Drummer Drumkit From Hell. I just threw a bunch of MIDI patterns together without regard for asthetics.

I had a funny thought about using them both at the same time,

splitting the guitar signal is no problem but how about controlling both amps with one pedal.

Is it possible to split the Pedal board signal with a Ethernet LAN Switch and sending this to both amps?????

I believe I run the speaker cable from the back of the 1X12 (out of the 4ohm jack) to the right jack of the cabinet (labeled 16 ohm mono). Then flip the switch on the back of the cabinet to the left to the 4ohm mono spot. Is this Correct? Just want to be sure this is hooked up correctly... Any help would be appreciated.

I'm user of your products: Spider (first series) 212 and POD X3 Live but I've got some problems with that gear - when I connect: guitar -> (guitar in) POD (live out) -> (guitar in) Spider, POD (output mode is Combo Pwramp) makes lots of noise - hum is still audible even when I completely fade out Master Volume on POD. Moreover when I connect guitar->POD->Spider (even when I setup Master on POD max) is more quiet than when I connect guitar to Spider without POD (in both cases I don't change volume on amp). When I use POD, volume level from amp changes while I'm playing and sometimes my amp turns of (restart) (this problem don't appear when I don't connect POD). So, my question is - why does this things happen? The gear is disabled? Or something else? Please help me to solve this problem

Hey Guys I am having a problem with my AMP which periodically changes its tone and gives me a much dirtier sound than was programmed. This sometimes rectifies itself and returns to programmed sound and most often takes place at the onset of a gig. I run the AMP with the FBV Express pedal. Hope you can shed some light on this. I can no longer return it to the sales point as I bought it from Mr Musicman Mermaid Beach Queensland Australia who is no longer trading.

I just bought small line 6 spider 15W amp, and got the FBV pedal that is compatible. When I got the pedal out and tried to use it, there is no way to "click" it into Wah mode. Guide says to press pedal forward until it "clicks", but there is nothing there for it to contact to "click" there is a point when it reaches the end to as far as it can go and there is a space of about a half inch to the base, which has a smal metal 'plate' in the base with a smal round hole in it. this is where the metal piece on the bottom front of the pedal would contact, if it could reach the base.

Is there a piece missing from the base that the peedal should contact to make it "click"?

If so it is missing. What to do?

I bought my Spider III 75 watt a few months ago, and I use it both to play my ipod through and to hook my violin up to. I originally hooked my mp3 player into the line-in with an auxiliary cable, but recently nothing happens when I do so. I get no music, no hissing or buzzing - nothing. My ipod works with the same cable on other speakers, and I can use a plug converter and hook my ipod into the guitar input, but it is not stereo that way and now of course i can't play while my ipod is playing now either. Any suggestions? KW1

Spider IV Direct Out problem

Hi there,

Am trying to record using the Spider IV's direct out. I am using a 1/4" TRS cable, which is connected to my soundcard's line input. My card's an Echo Layla 3G.

The problem i have is that it's extremely soft. The signal from the Spider IV is way too soft to be usable. I tried pumping the master volume on the spider, but achieved little. My soundcard's settings are maximum and set to line level. Is there some other setting that i need to take note of? hope someone can help me. thanks!

I think I have fried my power supply inside my Spider II amp head part # 41-00-0010 rev. A (# on the back of the amp)

I dont know the part # for the power supply.

I was using the amp, it poped, then shut down on its own. Then started to smell bad and smoke a little. The fuse looks fried but does not look broken, just burnt looking.

Can I purchase another power box or do you repair them?

Just some fooling around to see how well this works. Pretty well, I think. I decided to go retro and do something like a Fender Twin with a Rat pedal in front of it. Come on, isn't that just sooooo 80's? Yep.

My goal here was to see if I could convincingly run direct from the X3 Pro using the XLR outs and have it sound the same coming out of the SV112 running in Combo Poweramp mode. I've only posted the mic'd up SV112 here. The results are close enough that I don't care. So here's the details:

I have a Line 6 Spider II 150watt Half Stack and im pretty sure a fuse blew in it. When i play it makes popping noises and crackling noises. Will i need to take it into a music store for it to be repaired or am i able to replace the fuse? I know the fuse is in the head, but i dont see it on the outside so i would have to take apart the head just to see if a fuse is even blown... Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi,
I recently bought a new guitar with active emg pickups.
When i turn the volume knob of my guitar past a certain point there isn't coming any sound
out of my amp anymore. I just plugged my guitar straight into the computer and recorded a bit and the sound is fine.
so it have to be somthing with the amp it's like the amp protects itself from a to high power from the active pick ups.
is there a way to fix this problem myself.

I have a Spider III 120 watt guitar combo amp stopped working entirely...it turns on and the display screen where the settign and tuning shows up, there's a series of squares extending about halfway across the screen. I can't get any sound at all out of it. My floor board still works. Please post feedback asap, I have a show in two days and I neeeeeed this amp, otherwise we're gonna have a huge problem!!!

Just picked up a used spider 2 212, when buying tried it and sounded great functioned perfectly, got it home, and it powers up, lights flash etc... but no sound. Ive tried the a channel reset thing, no help. trying the power on while holding the tap button gives it sound, but just one sound no adjustments, all the knobs all make the channel select lights move after doing this. ive exhausted the net huntin for the correct procedure but i guess im missin it, any help would be appreciated....btw the way ive tried it in several power outlets as well with no help.

Hello everybody,

I have just recently bought a Spider III 30 watt amp and I would like to know which downloads if any, are available to change the presets on my amp. I am looking for a much cleaner tone on the 'clean' channel, in addition to which, I would also like to be able to get a more bluesy tone in preference to the 'insane' channel. I have looked on the downloads on this site but to be honest, it all looks really technical and I'm not sure if any of them are compatible with my particular model. Also, do I need any special equipment to install different settings from my computer to my amp (USB cables etc), and how do I transfer downloads from my computer into the amp?

Your help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to any advice that you can give me regarding this.

We got a problem with a spider III. During gigs the amp drops out and leaves our guitar player looking like a complete ***. This is very frustrating. I'm the bands tech so I took a look inside to see whats going on. It is a temperature related problem on the MAIN PCB. Just a little over ambient temp and it drops right off line and comes back after cool down which can be duplicated on the test bench. Looks like its most sensitive near a component that looks like a metal oval shaped can with the numbers 12.OC75 stamped on top.Is it a thermistor? Problem is I don't have a receipt or any other papers for the amp. Will Line 6 stand behind it? How much $ is the main pcb #A8-1: Rev D 02.06.2007 ?

2 months ago i asked guitar center if i can do something about my amp cause when ever i turn it on all that shows up is the led rectangle box with 8 led black boxes, and yes i did buy the amp from guitar center with no warranty but they had told me that line6 has a 1 year warranty, so 2 months later guitar center calls me and says that the problem that my amp has (8 led boxes) cannot be repaired for free cause the guarrenty dosent cover for that problem and they had said that line6 is charging me 125 bucks to fix the amp, but people on this line6 support site said the problem that my amp has is a

common issue and that all the customer has to do is ship it to line6 and they will fix it for free but then again guitar center says the companys charge is 125$, is there any other way i can do to get it fixed besides paying that much to repair my amp?

I recently purchased the Line 6 spider 3 30watt , firstly let me say that this is a fine amplifier in terms of sound and tone , looks ( really stunning ) and ease of controls , For a basic amp this sure is loaded .... I absolutely love it , anyway on to my queries...

While testing the unit at the store itself , I had to swtich on and off amplfier and the sound came on the second time unit being powering up , on switching on the first time there was no sound) only the Clean channel light comes on) , I'm having to do this each time I start it , in order to get any sound (i.e switch on and off and then on again) .I really dont mind switching it on twice since I love this amp so much , but it doesnt really make practical sense having to switch on the amplifier twice .

Now when the system does come on ( with all the knobs turned down ) the FX are activated and the tap light starts flashing , turning the Echo FX knob up and down to zero resets the effects to none ...so I reset all the settings to the default factory settings as indicated in the manual ...its still the same.

Also when I switch from the Clean channel to the other channels Crunch , Metal, Insane ...the apparent channel sound volume increases. each time I change it gets progressively louder from Clean to Crunch to Metal and Insane , turning the channel volume down and back up solves this issue ...is this normal ?? or some kind of a default setting while changing channels .... (the tap delay light comes on too when selecting to metal and Insane) ..and when I come back to the clean channel the sound is really low and the effects are activated again and the tap light starts flashing , turning the channel volume and Echo FX control solves this.

I hope i've not missed anything in the instruction manual ? do let me know whats your diagnosis ...so I can get back in touch with the dealer ...thanks Ryan

when I switch to the clean channel from any other channel, the tap tepo light comes on and there is a little bit of flange you can hear. I can shut them off by turning each knob up a little and then off. Any way to avoid this?

FBV Express Pedal not working

I just bought a Line 6 Spider Valve with the FBV Express footswitch.

The amp works by itself but does not work when I plug in the FBV express foot switch?

I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or else just got a faulty foot switch. Should of tested it first.

Where can I find a print out of the Spider iv 120 user presets. I have the artist and song presets. I could not find the user presets in the manuals section.

If I save a edited artist or edited song preset under a user preset is the factory user preset where I saved the edited preset still available? I am a AX2 user and when I save an edited preset on the AX2 I can access the edited presets and user presets from the same banks. Does this make sense?

When I use the pitch harmony (whammy) effect with my floorboard and push the toe down the pitch goes to the desired sound. If I take my foot off of the floorboard the pedal moves up slightly to change the pitch slightly. Is this a flaw in the floorboard? Have you heard about this from other customers? Or is this a one of a kind issue and do I need to replace the floorboard with the company I bought it from.

I am having trouble with my amp and footswitch, I have the spider III HD150, and bought the line 6 shortboard later. After using them both for some time, the footswitch has begun to malfunction. Immediately thinking that the cable may have a problem, another cable of the same nature was used, with the same malfunction happening. The pedal appears to be in perfect condition, as does the amp, and it is not the cable that is the problem as was proved when another was tried. I personally think it is the amplifier. Also the reccomended repair centre is hundreds of miles away. Is this a common problem with the spider II, or is there something seriously wrong with it. It is still under warrenty as it is only half a year old. Please help.

Hey, I was just wondering if I could get a little bit of help. I'm having difficulty with getting power in my amp. It's plugged in, I've tried switching outlets, and I've tried resetting the amp but I'm still having the same problem. Whenever I turn the amp on, none of the buttons light up. There seems to be some power going to the amp, however, as when I turn the amp off it makes noise briefly. Despite this, I'm not able to get any sound out of the amp. There didn't seem to be any problem when I played last night and switched the amp off. Again, I've tried switching outlets, resetting the amp, and almost everything else I can think of. If you can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I have just joined the Line 6 family purchasing the Spider III HD150 and 4x12 cab. Must say i am more than happy with the purchase.

It was floor stock though being the last one in stock.

It was set up using only one speaker lead from the head to the 4ohm input in the cab.

Is it possible that the head has already sustained damage? I have no idea how much it had been played.

There doesn't appear to be any obvious signs/sounds of damage.

I bought a Spider II half-stack used from a music store, had it sitting in a basement with no use for a few months. I played it and after a few minutes the sound cut out to a constant buzz, i saw smoke and it had that classis "shorted out" smell.

I spoke to a few ppl and they have said it could have been moisture, but the head stayed dry because it was near the furnace.

I hope its just a fuse, but i could see if there was one in there.

Are there fuses in these heads?

Broken Master Volume Spider Amp

I somehow have a Broken Master Volume on my Spider Amp,

Must be Electronic, as it was Never Hit or Banged...

The Master Volume Knob works but it is VERY TOUCHY...

between 0 to around 4 it is only ONE volume without ANY change

and then it JUMPS UP in Volume drastically somewhere around 4.5-5.5

and then is almost Too Loud at 6.5-7!!!

Any Ideas?? Can I fix myself?

I've had to try to find a 'sweet spot' and tape it in place, however, this is an (Volume) issue if I go from the Speakers to 1/4" Direct Out

***OH Yeah, It would be a REALLY COOL MOD

if SomeONE came up with an Adaptor that would

let you use the Direct Out AND the SPEAKERS SIMULTANEOUSLY

Any Ideas??

spider III headphone out distortion

I use the headphone out jack to run a direct feed to a Bose L1 unit. It seems to work fine at the start of the night, but becomes progressively more distorted (in a bad way) as the night goes on, until the signal is unusable. If I unplug the headphone line and just listen to the amp it sounds fine. Is there something that overheats in the headphone circuit?

Hi guys, I'm new to the community hehe...

Look I bought a Spider III HD75 Amp Head with a 4x12 Cab which is absolutely great by the way. Anyway, I came to Argentina to study music, and the power source here is 220V so I bought a 750W voltage transformer where I plugged the head. The first week it worked great, with no problems whatsoever. Howere, recently this morning, I turned it on and plugged my iPod into the direct mp3 connection, turned it off for some reason, and then turned it on but it wouldn't work! I mean, now when I turn it on, it sounds as if it was working properly u know, as if the speakers were also turning on, but it doesn't work anymore! All lights are off and it doesn't work!

Please tell me what happened with my amp! My dad's gonna kill me if he finds out it doesn't work!

New Guitar Tone Issues

My problem is my presets on my Spider III 15 don't get a same or even similar tone out of my Ibanez RG and in fact everything sounds muddier and dark. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows what I should do to get the tones I'm looking for: There was a whole forum convo dedicated to tones and I used the one for Metallica and that worked just fine on my Squier but my Ibanez makes it all muddier and the whole point is its distorted but bright. I'm just looking to see if anyone knows any settings that would get some metal/punk tones that sound good on my RG or if I should buy a different amp?

I' ve tried contacting support and still have not received a response. Yes the amp is beyond warranty. yes the speaker is blown because a smaller 4ohm speaker works fine when hooked up. But is too small to use as a replacement. I need to purchase a replacement speaker, and dont want to buy the original speaker. I need to know if I can run an 8ohm speaker with this amp? Because it is hard to find a 12" 4ohm speaker out there. There is only one manufacturer out there that i've seen that makes one, and thats Eminance.

Can I use an 8 ohm speaker?

Or do I have to run a 4 ohm speaker only?

And if I need to run a 4 ohm, then are there any other manufacturers out there that make 12" 4 ohm speakers?

Spider IV creates no sounds

My Spider IV 150 (combo) seems to have some serious glitches. I turned it on and ebverything seemed to be normal but whatever I tried, it remained silent. No sounds at all! No matter what preset I chose. I even tried to change my guitar (unlikely, but the guitar might have been broken overnight), but nothing expect silence. Tuning still works perfect, so the signal from the guitar definately reaches the amp. I also tried to switch it of an on again for a couple times but this still didn't help.

I'm starting to get terrible turned off by my Spider IV, because that's already the replacement amp to the one I originally bought. The first one developed some sort of a nasty vibration noise in the power suppple after 3 weeks, so I had it replaced under warranty but the replacement unit seems to be even worse... (Read my other thread!) Speaking with Metallica: 'The shortest straw has been pulled for me!'

Spider IV 75 tone not the same on Spider IV 75 same preset

The spider IV tone for example (Riggs, Royal Lush, many more) are not the same sound as on the spider III even though it is the same preset, In my opinion the tone on the spider III is better. The riggs tone has a way more metal tone while on the IV it is a cleaner dark crunch? Why are they not the same tone?

Having the amp for about a year ive noticed a variety of sound problems in that short span of time, but lately this one is making playing on this thing unbearable. I have aquired a lot of effects, there are five that i mainly use because this amp cant handle things like flange or octave... ect. With the five basic ones i use i noticed it have a low vibrating sound that kind of had me surprised but clipping really isnt something you can avoid with a tiny 15 watt amp these days. I first thought it was things that seemed obvious, like plugging the jack in something other than the surge protecter that has the effects power supply, or maybe it was the stratocaster i was using. Switched guitars and the same thing happened again the meniacal humming. Then i tried turning the volume on everything way way down but then i thought this is metal whats the point of having quiet distortion it has to be crushing unbearable distortion. SO! i guess my question is, is this one of the brilliant features on this thing or should i take the sensable route and pay for a -NON LINE6- cabinet somewhere? and use this for practice

OK, i know this sounds stupid,but i would like to know if i can set up my spider iii 212 combo amp to a spider iii 412 cab, and if i can would i still be able to get the same loudness out of it. my main concern is if i hook it up will the ohms change in a way that i would not be able to get the same clairity and loudness as before. or it might give it less resistance and then id be likely to blow a speaker.

I own a spider iii 120w and whenever i play out of it, the sound becomes fuzzy and it starts making a static noise and then the light showing what channel you are using, the light showing which amp effect you are using (clean, blues, ect.), the light showing what effects are currently turned on all turn off. The display showing which amp preset you are using remains on, and when i turn off and back on, the amp preset is the only thing that turns on and on the display are about 6 black boxes. has anyone else had this problem? how do you fix it?

ok ok i have asked this ? alot and still have gotten no answer for it from line 6. can you use a spider 3 150 hd as a mono head as long as the single cab has 8ohm load for the connected side leaving open one out put connection. say i hook up my left side to a 412 8ohm mono cab and leave the right side not plugged in will it work or fry the head . cause ihave been told bolth once by the line 6 sales man at guitar center said it was fine then some one at line 6 forum said it isn't ok cause bolth sides had to be hooked up cause its stereo only. please tell me the right answer i saw the how to hook your head up tute and it said it was not good idea for the cab cause it had 4ohm only in mono but never said anything if you used a 8ohm cab in mono please help me.

Having a strange issue with My Spider ll head. It needs the treble and mid controls turned to zero..then brought back up every time I switch channels...otherwise the volume will be set low. Weird. Just got my Spider III 150 and I LOVE it. It's my first amp that is worth anything. I know very little about amps, I just know how to play. So, I need to know if this is a malfunction or just part of the style of amp. It is doing 2 things. First on effects that involve phase, delay and any of those types of effects it makes this weird sound that almost sounds like clapping. It echoes the sound as if it is trying to time with the effect. Also, I will changing through the presets/effects and it will freeze and no sound. Then the lights will go off, except for the LCD screen which stays lit. Sometimes it will stay frozen for 2 seconds and sometimes 20. It ONLY does this when I am changing presets/effects. These two abnormalies seem to come hand in hand. Once it starts freezing, it then starts making that clapping sound on certain presets. It doesn't always freeze either, somestime it will work for 2 hours and then all of a sudden start freezing. I did some research and I haven't been able to find any other stories like it. It doesn't show any bars or squares on the screen when it goes off, just blank. I tried the reset, nothing. Power cable and plug is good also. Anybody have any insight on this?

I've had the amp for about 3 months, and the distortion on the crunch, metal, and insane channels worked great when I first got it, but for the past month or so the distortion has been working on and off. I have a Spider II 30 and I recently purschased the FBV Express pedal. Everything is working perfectly, except for the tuner.

When I switch the amp on all the lights in the pedal turn on and turn off again leaving me with what I think are the normal lights indicating which effect is being used and if I'm using the Volume or Wah function.

When I try using the tuner (by holding A & B) it doesn't do anything.

If your amp does not work, but shows power in the display window with black blocks where names should have been, do the following: turn the unit off, hold down the A channel button, turn the unit on, It will reset the computer. I purchased a Spider II Amp (75) about a year and a half ago -- really have enjoyed it. I don't use it often, as I primarily play my acoustic. Here's my issue: I've been having trouble for the last couple of months with the delay just suddenly turning on at random moments (mid-song...eek!). I tried resetting to the original factory settings, thinking that maybe I have somehow programmed the delay in there, but it hasn't helped.

I'm not terribly amp literate -- I just purchased what I thought was the best product to suit my needs (which it really is, aside from this issue). Anything I can do to resolve this?

just got a Valve 212, which sounds excellent btw, and sent off for the free FBV Express pedal. Unfortunately the pedal was dead when I plugged it in (yes tried another cable, its just dead). No prob thinks I, and spoke to someone at Line 6 who said he'd get someone to phone me back. That was 3 days ago so I assume no one is calling.

So i tried your support number again (UK), which seems to only work for very limited hours, during hours I can't usually call. So I look on your site expecting to find a support email address. Can I find one? No I can't, which, to be fair might be me being thick, but since when I did find an email address in the manual it just bounces an automatic response pointing me here, I suspect any email address I would find would be useless.

So, is there any customer service I can contact or should I attack my pedal with a soldering iron until it bends to my will? I'm itching to use my new amp properly but this is driving me up the wall.

I have a Spider III HD150 head and cab. After playing my amp for around 10 minutes or more at no louder than half volume, the sound turns to fuzz and seems to be really distorted as if the head was blown. It does not do this every time I play, only around 80 percent of the time. This wouldn't be such a big problem if I didn't use this amp when I play live shows. When I'm on stage playing, I need to be able count on my amp sounding good for the whole show. What do you thin the problem is and what is the fix?

Hi - I posted a question last week about my new (second-hand) Spider II HD150. I really like the simplicity of the controls, and the fact I can play around with different tones or voicings quickly. I am new at using seperate speaker cabs and heads.

Question #1 - has anyone noticed a fuzzy tone or warble just as a note has finished decaying on the Spider II head? I find it mostly happens on the first couple of clean amp models with the gain (distortion) turned all the way off (counterclockwise). I turn the amp up, play a note very softly, and as it dies out it goes, (softly) fizzz...zz..zz..pft. It is not the Noise reduction, as I always turn that function off.

Anyhow, if you have the gain control at about 12 o'clock it does not seem to happen!? Hey, I like the sound of the gain up on the clean setting anyhow. It seems to give the sound more "body".

Now I am hooked on these amps!

My local music store has a used Spidervalve HD100 for $549 CDN. My second question is:

Will I notice a big difference in the two amps? If I try to read Harmony Central forums, I get all mixed up...I'm not sure that forum does anyone any good in that it's either someone TOO in love with their equipment (and not balanced in their opinions), or someone who obviously does not like a particular company regardless of the product!

(You can tell by the laguage they use)

I have owned this amp for two months, and everything has worked fine until now. I typically use the direct out for scratch guitar when recording drums, then use it again later for the final guitar tracks. I started preparing for a recording session when I turned on the amp and noticed this hum/ feedback/ ungrounded-sounding noise coming from the moniter speakers. It was almost as loud as the guitar. I have been using the same setup for about two months with great results, until now.

The setup- Line 6 hd150 - presonus firestudio - mackie amp - mutiple sets of moniters.

There was no noise just two days ago, now plenty of it. There is no hum coming from the 4x cab, only from the line out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

I bought my Spider from Musicans Mriend and recieved it last night late and didnt have time to try it, but I did today since im off work.

It plays for about 3-4 minutes then the channel pops on and off ever half a sec or so, but the lcd stays lit though and some lights and the tab button flashes, so I thoguht it was a power issue.

But if I Hold the tap button on 2 sec, I think I am supossed to get the tuner,and there is supossed to be no sound? but, it goes to a clean channel with no controls, volume, ect, it stays about half volume.

but it does not click or anything it stays on. so I take it, it is not a power issue since it stays on.

I have reset it and it still does the same thing, so I am thinking it could be a switting issue in the curcuit mabe getting hot and resetting?

Is there a fix for this, or do I need to return it, it sounds great for the little time i get to use it.

Could it be a firmware problem? can i hook this up to my pc and flash it if it is?

Any help is greatly apprciated.

Okay, so I took my last Spider III 75 watt back and got a new one. It was playing fine for a few days and now I have problems... again. Everytime I turn on the amp, the presets cut my gain in half. It will play fine with the normal amount of drive for about thirty seconds and then my gain gets cut. Why is this happening? Do I need to try a new amp brand or what?

I've been playing this amp for almost 3 years now, and just a few days ago the sweep and tape echo won't work. When I turn the knob to Sweep Echo, Reverb is activated. I have a Spider 3 amplifier and FBV Express setup that was bought on the same day and maybe a year old. The amplifier gets played everyday and no problems. The pedal I used maybe a dozen times and it stopped working. I like the pedal and would like to fix it, it's handy for jammin'. I have tried half a dozen or more ethernet cords just to be sure. All it does is when you plug it in and power up the amp is all the lights light up and then go off and it seems like the amp doesn't even recognize it. If I press the pedal to switch to volume mode the volume light comes on and that's it, does nothing and its stuck there. Now keep in mind this pedal has never been dropped, kicked, wet, abused, NOTHING. Sat in the floor for about a month and got used VERY little. HELP.

I would like to see the (knob) settings which are equivalent to the Spider III 15w factory presets.

Yes I can save my own custom settings in place of the factory presets. But it would be nice to be able manually dial in the knob settings to get back to one of the factory presets (without having to do a "factory reset" which would erase my saved custom settings). This way I can compare the original factory settings with my custom saved settings.

It would be nice if Line 6 (or somebody) would post the knob settings which are equivalent to the four factory presets (Clean, Crunch, Metal, Insane).

Hi everyone

I have a Spider II 30, and it's refusing to change to the clean and insane channels sporadically. The crunch and metal channels work perfectly, but the buttons for the other two, which I use all the time will suddenly stop working, and then start working ten minutes, half an hour, a few hours or even a few days later. My FBV pedal is currently over 100 miles away so I have no way of changing channels. I did accidentally blow the amp up a few of years ago (long story), but that was fixed and there was minimal damage, and this problem has only started happening in the last year. I don't think it could be the connection, because when it is working, it responds to the slightest touch. The whole thing seems to be completely illogical, unless it's some kind of programming fault. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it?

Noisy pots on Spider III HD75

I have a Spider III HD75 amp head with a matching cabinet, purchased new in Sept 08. I find the gain, channel and main volume pots to be a tad noisy. Is this par for the course on these, or should that be looked at?

Also, I can't help but find the instructions in the manual misleading, since the amp manual says not to use speakers with an ampedance other than 4ohms, yet the matching cabinet is 8ohms. Anyway, are there any disadvantages/recommendations against using only one amp output? Reason is I intend to use the cabinet with my Fender Vibrochamp, so I would keep each amp plugged to one side of the cabinet most of the time.

Calibration procedure for FBV Shortboard MKII

Hello,

I just received my FBV SB MKII today but there weren't any calibration procedures included. I checked online and found 2 references to cal procedures for the shortboard, neither of which worked. I'm now confused because the procedures were different in each reference and I'm suspect that either one is correct! The first method I tried was plugging in the cat5 cable (connected to my Spider IV 75) while holding down the "D" button - the result was that it entered "16D User" mode instead of the calibration mode. The second method I tried (MKI procedure online) was holding "Stomp", "Delay" and "Reverb" while plugging in the cat5 - this did not place the pedal in "calibration mode".

Can you please forward me the correct calibration procedures or send me the absolute link?

I own a full rig of the spider iii equipment. The Spider HD 150 head and the HD 4x12 cabinet.

My band is on tour at the moment and we are starting to play really big venues (warped tour, key club, big halls, etc etc)

so I am getting a EVH 5150 iii head...

I do not have enough money at the moment for the EVH cab though. Do any of you think that the EVH will still work good with the Line 6 cabinet?

Or will it blow out instantly haha jk

Problem with Spider 112 - Random channel changing !

Thanks for this opportunity to expose my problem.

I have a Spider 112 and I have a strange behaviour : as soon as I switch it on, after a few minutes (sometimes seconds) it starts to change the channel randomly.

In this situation, it is quite impossible to play on it.

I checked the manual, and I didn't see anything to reset the amp, perhaps it's a software problem.

I received the amp from a friend and I know he had put a pedal on the amp and it's since this time the problem appears.

It would be sad to throw away the amp just due to this problem, but, as I said, in the actual situation, it's impossible to play on it.

A: Yes. Toggle the boost by holding the 'Tap' button while turning the 'Drive' knob past 12 o'clock. The gate can be toggled similarly, but using the 'Echo/Reverb' knob.

It would be helpful in time, if you could make an "advanced" manual for the iv 15,

which covers this (and also tuning, preset saving, and resetting to factory settings).

My Line 6 spider III 75W DIED! Need help troubleshooting the problem.

Hi,

My line 6 spider III 75W has completely died. When i plug in the guitar theres is only one tone, which is a loud overdriven tone. The volume, tone control knobs do not work. The tuner also doesnt work. Changing the patch selector seems to work and all the patch names and settings show on the display but the tone remains unaltered. I am guessing it is a failure of some component in the electronics. Speaker seems intact. The knobs are intact. There is no burning smell. The amp has not been mishandled in any way. It just died on me one day. Its just over a year old and outside warranty too

All guitar stores are confident of repairing it, but require a $60 initial non refundable amount just to diagnose the problem. They say in the past the bare minimum they will charge for the repairs is 120$ which is about 40% the value of the amp. Basically its value is 0 right now. So i have nothing to lose so i have decided to try and repair it myself.

Could any one suggest a cause for this problem and help me solve it myself? My cousin is an excellent electronics engineer and can troubleshoot really well and has her own workshop. A PCB diagram, or any other diagrams for connections would be extremely helpful. IF someone can even give me a good resolution picture of the circuit that would be terrific too.

Worst case scenario, i am thinking of using the existing cab and speaker (which are intact) and making a completely new PCB and installing it myself from material found on the web.

On all the YouTube video's they turn the Smart Harmony on with the Shortboard MkII foot pedal.

My budget is quite low, so 300 euro's for the amp and 30 for an FBV pedal is enough.

I have enough money to buy a Shortboard MkII but it costs 200 euro's. That's way too much money for a stupid board with 13 switches and a volume pedal.

So, my question is:

Can I turn on the smart harmony feature (that I hear 2 tones through each other) just on the amp itself, or do I really need a Shortboard to turn it on?

When I turn on my amp and its on the clean channel there is automatically a echo time on the tap delay time. I have to turn the echo knob up and back down to get it to go away. Spider IV Power Fault

I recently purchased a Spider IV 75W Amp from Guitar Center in Phoenix, AZ while I was in the USA.

I live in Melbourne, Australia. I understand that fact voids the warranty.

Part of the decision to purchase this specific amp was due to the power information printed on the back of the amplifier. It states that it is capable of handling 240V of power, which is the Australian standard. My brother and father are both qualified electricians, and they agree that it should be able to handle the amount of power, according to that information.

After plugging it in and switching on the power, there was a loud 'pop' and the amp switched off, the LCD screen was only lit up for a second or two. There was a distinct burning smell, and the amp would no longer turn on.

My brother dismantled and removed the preamp to discover that not only had the time-delay fuse blown, but also the PCB part # 35-00-0335 had a blown part #TDA7293...which upon research (http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/25102/STMICROELECTRONICS/TDA7293.html), we discovered is only capable of handling 120V.

Therefore I need to get a part that is 240V capable.

I understand that the time-delay fuse blew because it was only 125V capable, that's fine, and easily replaceable.

What isn't fine is that your amplifier states it CAN handle a certain voltage of power, but cannot.

I contacted MusicLink Australia, the official Line 6 Service Center in Australia (according to your website) inquiring as to whether I'd be able to get the replacement part, but Spider IV's aren't available in Australia yet, so therefore neither are the spare parts (for at least 3 months according to the spare parts tech).

I’m going to need the replacement part either directly from you or from your Australian representative, in order to be able to repair my amp.

We’re capable of repairing it and installing the parts, (because it doesn't seem that MusicLink Australia was much interested in helping me out), we just need the parts.

I have just bought a new FBV Express (not the MkII version) and hooked it up to my Spider MkII (50w) which they told me in the store would be compatible. When I switch it on, all the lights flash, and then go out... I've tried calibrating it but not sure it's responding correctly and the Spider just seems to cut in and out when it's plugged in.

I just bought my 1st guitar and a Spider III 15W amp and I have some questions. On the Line 6 website in the "sounds" section it shows a 1 and 2 setting for each channel and you can hear a different sound for each setting. On my amp it just has a button for each channel and no way to go to a 1 or 2 setting. Is there really a 1 and 2 setting? Also, I can really use some advice on the general settings for this amp such as what levels to set the gain, bass, treble, etc. Thanks.

Spider Valve 112 + FBV Express = Random Channel Changing

I turned my Valve on the other day with the FBV Express plugged in, and it would randomly change channels on me without my foot going anywhere near the FBV. I could then change the channel back to A, and a few seconds later it would go to any of the other 3 channels and stay there.

I shut the amp off and unplugged/replugged both ends of the cat5 cable. It hasn't done it since but I haven't played it much.

Is this a sign of a bad cable, pedal, amp, none, or all?? Has anyone seen this before?

hi there all i bought my spider valve 212 amp about 2 months ago and since have used it only about 6-7 times due to other commitments and when i powered it up tonight it made a bang and i had no output what so ever, the tubes are all on and glowing on inspection seem ok ( i have no clue whether a faulty tube will still glow but all four are) i also get sound from the preamp out yet nothing when i plug into the poweramp in. i have never disconnected speaker and always take care leave amp to warm up before taking it off standby. any suggestions what the fault could be? surely its under warrenty but are faulty tubes? thanks for your help during this frustrating time!

Just bought a new IV 75 about a week ago with a FBV EXPREES MKII, I went to custom tone but could not find my amp will they ever add it to the list the flextone, vetta, HD 147, and alot of other ones were on there but I didnt see any of the new spider IV amps on the list? I thought it would be available for the IV 75,120, 150.

Spider 75 watt combo would these pedals be beneficial to use?

I own the 75 watt spider combo and i was thinkin of buying a boss ns-2 noise suppressor and a boss ge-7 graphic equalizer from one of my girlfreinds freinds for 50 bucks would these work with my spider or would i benefeit from them at all? Or would i be wasting 50 bucks i know the amp has a noisegate built in but its still pretty noisy when set on insane with high volume and gain.

And if this will work how would i run them? I use a dunlop classic wah also.

used amp. for one hour,turned off,then turned back on in about 5 min.the controls did not lit back up. do these amps have some kind of overheating breaker built in or do i have a malfuntion and need to have the amp serviced?

My spider 3 hd 150 has burnt out the left output component on the small circuit board attached to the heatsink. I thought maybe I was pulling too much power with 2 4x12 line 6 cabinets so I disconnected one and if I play it loud enough to hear over drums it burns out after about 20 min. it's happened 2x and I was wondering if there is something I can do to prevent it. Should I put a fan in back to keep it cooler or is there any other solution?

I have a Spider II 112 that I have had for a while. Within the first year (still under warranty just barely) it started making clicking, hissing, and popping sounds and the volume would jump up and down. Took it in and had it fixed and it worked...for about another year. Now it has been doing the same exact thing again only now it is out of warranty. I am wondering if anyone else is having the same issue?

Something in my spider III 15 amp has melted. A little black plastic square, where the circut board is bolted to the metal frame. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this something that can be fixed? The amp started smoking, and no longer works. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hi, I hope this is the right catagory for my question. I have a Line 6 Spider lll 15 watt amp and a Boss ML-2 Pedal. I got the pedal 2 years ago back when I had a, well cheap no name amp. I got the Line 6 amp last christmas. I know it's already got distortion tones built in. But I was just curious if I could plug the pedal in and use it to. HI all! I am now the proud owner of a Spider II HD150 which is my 5th piece of Line 6 gear (AX212, Flextone II 2x10, Flextone II XL, Flextone III XL)

Surprisingly, there are no model numbers on this head but I am assuming it is referred to the HD150? The outputs on the rear are two 75watt outputs.

This is my first time using a seperate head and cabinet, and I cannot find anything on the Spider head downloaded manual about speaker connections. My cabinet is a Crate GX412 with two 8 ohm inputs on the back. Am I correct that I hook each 75watt output on the Line 6 Spider head to each 8 ohm input on the speaker cabinet?

I believe the speaker cabinet is rated at 100 watts - does this mean that I have to be careful not to turn up the Line 6 head, or is 75watts "stereo" still 75 watts? I hope these aren't too rudimentary questions, I am used to having combos up until now.

Custom Tones / Feedback problem

I recently got a 15 watts spider III and am because It's new and very different from my past amp (a small starter amp) I don't really know how to work certain parts of it.

My first Problem is the feedback. I plug in my guitar (Semi-acoustic Fender 60 - CE) and if I try the crunch setting (easily my favourite) I can play totally normally with the volume up to about 5. If I go past 5 on the volume knobs, i get HEAVY feedback which is just really loud noise. I have tried loads of different methods and none seen to work so help or suggestions would be hugely appreciated. It is not just the guitar as I've tried my electric and that has the same problems.

The second problem is probably just my lack of knowledge. Can you create a custom tone on the 15 watt amp / do you have to use a computer?

Should the D channel LED work like the A,B, and C channel LED's?

As I scroll through the User Presets (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D,...........) the A, B, and C LED's light up as expected but the D LED does not. I have a Spider III 120. I've owned it for about 5 months and noticed that the D channel LED stopped working about 3 weeks ago.

Last night i was playing with my spider 3 120 watts, and it was working perfectly. I turned off my amp and unplugged it as usual, and went to sleep. The next morning I woke up and decided to play a bit of guitar, and i turned on my amp, and it didn't turn on. It was plugged and everything as usual. When i turned it on, the power supply turned on with a vibrating sound, but the settings screen and the buttons did light up as it usually did. Also, the speakers didn't work. Nothing really worked except the power supply. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix this problem?

I have a midi controller that I use with guitarrig3 and my pc speakers just suck badly (but sound great on the headphones though). I have a bunch of presets done in guitar rig and I would like to use the spider III as the speaker for whatever sound my sound card along with guitar rig will generate. I would like to use spdif out from my soundcard (either coaxial or optical) with some adapter and feed it to the eaither spider's mp3 input or straight guitar input. Will this work? if yes, what adapters will I need?

I remember trying in the past feeding signal from sound cards' headphone port, and it worked but there was some buzzing noise on top of the pc sound (grounding issue?) that's why I'm thinking that maybe spdif will get better results.

Thanks in advance, I hope it's possible because I cant afford the fbv for now...

So I've got a Spider II (2x12) combo. When cranked loud the bass comes in and out. At low volume the problem goes away. I'm a tech so I cracked this thing open. There was a 16v capacitor broken free from the board directly behind the bass control pot (on the main board, not on the board with the knobs). I assumed this was the problem so I removed and replaced the cap. The problem, however, persists.

When the "head" of the amp is outside the cabinet I find that the problem goes away - which tells me that vibration is the problem, not uncommon really. But the question now is what, exactly, is vibrating in and out of the circuit?

If this is a common problem, enlighten me or give me some direction. Otherwise, I would like a schematic if one is available.

Also, guitar center sold this amp as new to my customer. The cap that I referred to earlier was wrapped in electrical tape, which cinched the cap to one of the heat sinks. I don’t think that was factory—ouch, sucks to be this kid.

Problem with new Amp.

I just bought a new Line 6 Spider 3 15watt amp and got it mailed to Iraq. Here the power voltage is 250V as compared to the US where its 120V. I did not realize this and excited to have my new amp connected it to the power outlet and then I heard a sort of crackle noise as soon as I switched it on. I realized what had happened and assesed the situation immediately. I thought maybe the main fuze went bye bye. And so I found a power inverter and reconnected the amp. When I switched it on. The lights came on , which means it could'nt have been the main fuze. So now all I get is lights but no sound. I oppened it up to see if I could find any visible damage or any burnt smell but nothing. My question is, what are some of the things I might want to check in order to figure out what is wrong with it? Keep in mind I am deployed to Iraq and I dont have access to a repair shop.

On my Spider Valve, when I scroll through some of the user presets they are corrupt or something and do not work. All it shows is a buncha random simbols like: $%%*()*&^%$#@. I tried reseting the amp the the factory presets but had no luck. Any ideas?

I'm trying to decide between two options: get a Spider IV 75 or use a Digitech RP500 through my 60 watt Roland keyboard amp. I just got the RP500 from Guitar Center and it actually sounds pretty good through the keyboard amp. But even when I bought it, I was still trying to make up my mind and I am considering exchanging the RP500 for the Spider.

My main concern is the quality of the amp modeling and the sound quality overall. How good is the Spider? I know this is a Line 6 forum, but I'm asking you to be as objective as you can. Anybody have experience with both of these? I played around with the Spider IV 75 on two different occasions, but the first time, it was so loud in there, I couldn't hear myself play. And the second time, I was afraid to crank the amp up much because I am self-conscious about my playing ability, or lack thereof.

How are the cleans, the mid-gain tones and the high-gain tones on the Spider IV 75? I know the effects are good -- I used to own an X3 Live, but I got rid of it because I thought the amp modeling sounded great for recording, but kind of fake and flat through an amp. Is the Spider IV series better in this area? How different is the amp modeling between the Spider IV series and the X3s?

spider IV turns to 'default user' mode when turning on

I'm most recently using a Spider IV 150 Combo, SW v.1.04, and it recently happend twice to me that when I was tunring on the amp the display read 'default user'; usually the amp stores the last used setting when switching it off and remebers it when turning it back on. But sometimes that's not the case and the amp goes to the beforementioned 'default user' setting. I'll have to dial in any other stored preset to get the amp back into 'normal' mode. Does anyone else experience this behaviour? Any suggestions?

I have the spider 3 150 watt 2x12 amp. I also use the FBV shortboard with it...last night while jamming the amp stopped working all of a sudden. last thing that I remembered I did was attempt to adjust the tap on the board when it all quit. I tried the factory reset, and left unplugged for almost 24 hours. no response. The lcd display on the amp still only lights up with all blocks ...any suggestions?

i have the spider 3 75 watt and have the FBV express pedal, as well as a boss ds-1 distortion. i am also waiting on an ibanez tube screamer and boss ns-2 noise suppressor.. my problem is that when i try to hook the ds1 with the amp it doesnt sound good at all. i had this pedal for a while and used it on a peavey blazer 158 and got decent distortion out of it, now is sounds like complete garbage. so my question is, if there is a way to have the fbv express pedal and all the other pedals hooked up to sound normal. or should i just sell the pedals and get the pod xt live....???? any input would help. thanks

when i got back from the store, i went to play my guitar and i turned my amp on. After playing for literally 5 seconds, no sound would come out of the amp. yes the volume is on on the amp, guitar, and footpedal. i tried all of my cables so they were not the problems. when i do use the tuner on the amp, the notes of the strings do show up, so i know the cables are not screwed up. now the amp only works for the first 5 seconds it is on and i havnt even had the amp for a year. :'(

I have a Spider Valve that has been making a strange kinda metallic ringing sound from the back. The sound does not come from the speaker, justa from the back of the amp when I play bass heavy frequencies. Also, when I turn the Master Volume up, I notice more ground noise and a little bit of crackling. Should I replace the preamp tubes, the power amp tubes, or all of the tubes? The tone is unaffected, the only two symptoms are the ringing and a little bit of noise. What tubes should I use? Someone please help me, I have a gig soon and I need to have my beloved Spider Valve!!!!!

I have been using my 75W Line 6 Spider III in our worship team. In the past I had been playing straight through the amplifier due to the inadequacies of our sound system; however, we are currently in the process of buying a new PA sound system! We are now going to run all of the instruments through the new system for better sound control. We would still like to use the Spider amp as a monitor and then run a line out into the system. But with the design of the Spider, if you connect a cable to the line out/headphone jack, it bypasses the amp and the amp becomes just a giant effects box. Is there any way that you can work around this issue other than just mic the amp? We don't want to have to buy a whole new amp and effects board because we love the spider and are also strapped for cash, we have been saving for this system forever. I would appreciate any help or info on this problem.

HD150 hissing from line out + too much bass

I bought a HD150 head and cab set in January, but I have only started recording onto my computer recently. I have noticed that the line out/headphones port is giving off a hissing noise, I first thought it might be my setup, but I unplugged all of my equipment, and just had the amp on with the headphones plugged in (nothing connected in the input port) and I still get a hiss. I don't get it when im running through my cab.

Also, the amplifier is giving out way too much bass and is shaking the room around me, as well as getting a distorted sound, this, by the way, is only with the master volume set at a quarter.
