Jtv 59 switch issue resolved?

Hi   I'm planning on buying a black jtv59 (korean) which has just come into stock with sweetwater. I wanted to check if all the switch issues are resolved as I travel a lot and it would be greatly inconvenient for me to send the guitar back. Can you advise as to the status of the jtv59 switch issue.  Regards  Karan

    Hi Karan,

It looks like as long as it has the new switch, the issue seems to be resolved.

In all likelihood it would have the new switch and you'd be fine. If you're travelling a lot though, my advice would be that once you purchase the guitar, unscrew the backplate behind the switch which won't affect your warranty. Have a look at the switch. The old switches were right-angled,  and took up all of the space in the cavity. The new switches are straight-through and a lot smaller, so they only take up the left side of the cavity.

Don't bet on the switch being OK............I got my 59 two weeks ago and while it does have the new smaller switch it started playing up pretty quickly with the already well documented problems and eventually stopped working properly this week so it's getting sent back for repair tomorrow.   It's serial number is W110100478 which is presumably newer than the one you're looking at?

Rich here, product manager for JTV and customer advocate at Line 6. If that 59 just came into stock, it will have the new switch and would most likely have the flux cleaning rework done. We reworked all 59 at the end of May. So again, if they are just receiving it, you should be fine.

Sorry to any of you guys who had to deal with this. Thank you for hanging in there.

This issue is clearly NOT resolved as people (including me) are still having the problem with the "new" batch. Received my JTV59 on 7/7, ordered from GC months ago, and it started switching models randomly today. Serial #110100184. You can hear it (and my aggravation) here:

Am I going to have to send this thing back? What a mess...

If you have switching problems, then yes - it will need to go to an Authorised Service Centre or to Line 6 to be repaired.

Re: Jtv 59 switch issue resolved?

I just received my JTV-59 from Sweetwater this week.  The pickup selector switch did not work (i.e. change models)

at all in Variax mode.  Also, the guitar started changing models randomly.

It literally took minutes to find these problems.  Doesn't anyone do QC on these guitars.

While I love several Line 6 products and am still excited about the Variax concept, this is really a poor job by Line 6.

These products should be on stop ship.  I am going to ask Sweetwater to take it back.  It feels like an experiment still.

$1,500 is too much to be a beta tester.

Does your guitar have a cream or black pickup selector switch tip?

With the possible exception of the black JTV-59 which I believe has always had a black selector switch tip, I think most switches that have been replaced or replaced pre-delivery to end users have a black switch tip.

It's disappointing for sure, but you are right to remain excited about these guitars IMO.  The switch issue whilst very visible and key to normal operation when an alternative switching method is not available (e.g. POD X3 Live/HD500 etc...) probably actually represents less than 0.1% of the total guitar and electronics although it seems for some to be causing a major problem and that is undeniably annoying and inconvenient for those people.  However, with a replacement switch fitted you should not experience further problems

Either Sweetwater or Line 6 will look after you regarding this issue.  You may find it quicker to return your guitar directly to Line 6 for this to be resolved.  You should probably give them a call tomorrow between 9am and 5pm Pacific Time to arrange a suitable resolution - I know that around 12 noon to about 3pm is probably their busiest time.
